Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mona Lisa Eating Pizza? Mona Lisa Eating Pizza (MLEP) is a rhyming card game where players study a single image on each card — called a "Rhymage" — and race to identify the two elements in the scene that form a rhyming phrase. It's part visual puzzle, part word game, part riddle, and 100% chaos with the right crowd.

How do you play? Each round lasts 60 seconds. Players secretly write down their guess for the Rhymage shown on their card. When time's up, the dealer shouts "Switch!" and everyone passes their card clockwise. Keep going until everyone has seen every card. After 5 rounds, the player with the most points wins. Round 5 is the Speed Round — all cards face-up, grab and guess as fast as you can!

What is a "Rhymage"? A Rhymage is a single image on each card where two elements in the scene combine into a rhyming phrase. Your job is to look at the image and crack the rhyme hidden inside it. For example, a card might show a cactus playing soccer — the answer would be "cactus at soccer practice." See it? Good luck un-seeing it.

How does scoring work? Points are based on how many players guessed correctly — the rarer the correct guess, the more points you earn:

  • All 5 players correct → 1 point each
  • 4 correct → 2 points each
  • 3 correct → 3 points each
  • 2 correct → 4 points each
  • Only 1 correct → 5 points
  • Exact match to the Answer Key → +1 Bonus Point

Speed Round scoring is doubled. Honor system applies.

What counts as a "correct" answer? If both rhyming words are present in your guess, it counts. "Close enough" answers go to a group vote — thumbs up or thumbs down, majority rules.

How many players can play? The game is designed for 2–5 players. For 6–10 players, combine two decks or split into teams. Teams make it even more fun (and loud).

What's in the box?

  • 200 Image Cards (25 cards per game × 8 colored decks)
  • 40 Answer Key Cards
  • 1-Minute Sand Timer
  • Scorepad with Score Sheets
  • Instruction Sheet

How long does a game take? A full 5-round game takes approximately 30–45 minutes. Rounds can be played separately if you're short on time.

What age is this for? Ages 14 and up. The rhymes get tricky and the laughs get loud — it's best for teens and adults.

Can I play with fewer than 5 people? Absolutely. For fewer than 5 players, deal one card face-down to each person, place the remaining cards in a Draw Pile to the left of the dealer, and create a Discard Pile to the right of the last player. The dealer draws a new card each turn to keep the game moving.

Are the decks different from each other? Yes! There are 8 different colored decks, each with 5 rounds of unique Rhymage cards. Collect them all for endless replayability.
